Exploring the Town and Villages of “Uzerche”

018Before I visited “Uzerche” I learned that it was called the “Pearl of the Limousin,” by famous English Writer, “Arthur Young.”   I thought a lot about it and why was it the Pearl of this Greenest Farming Province.  Until I visited the town and its villages, I understood why.

029To start my exploration of this extraordinary “Pearl” we parked our car in the car park called “vieille ville” where we started the tour of this beautiful part of France.                         026Uzerche is a historic town in the department of Correze, within the vicinity of Brive-La-Gaillarde in the Province of Limousin.  This Medieval part of Correze stands high on the side of the “Vezere River,” overlooking a hillside vegetation of green trees.                           024Uzerche was more than I expected, it exceeded my expectations as I travelled around and when I came up the hill overlooking the “River Uzerche,” I was astounded to the scenic view that this historic medieval town released to the reality of my eyes. 030 - Chateau de TayacThe hill is where all the visitors head to because this is where the old town was built.  Boasting the beautiful River and village to the North and South of the other side of the River bank. This scenic view is not only good to be told by someone else, as it is a must to touch it with your own senses and see it for yourself.                                                                  027Le Chateau de la Porte de Becharie – overlooks the extraordinary view across the Vézère River from the city wall.                                                                                                                                                                  031Bécharie Gate is the only remaining gate of the three gates of the enclosure that surrounded the city of Uzerche. The facades and said city gate Barrachaude door and various parts were classified by historical monument in 1907 and 1987 and it is now owned by the municipality.                                                                                                                                017Uzerche itself boasts all the beautiful aspects of the pasts still standing in its original dated status.  France is a country that the more you go outside cities and towns to the smallest country towns, you encircle yourselves with the outdated mode de vie that the French has always kept them alive and still living with them in the new era of the modern day living.

There are many aspects of the olden days to see in Uzerche, such as the Abbey church of St Peter and St Andrew that was consecrated in the year of 1097.  It is a colossal 11th Century building that intimidate and braces the skyline with its three embattled towers020 - Saint EulalieI captured some beautiful views of a farm house with their cattle in the green prairies.  003I love animals in the prairies and I made a stop to shot some pics of beautiful life on the farms.  Even animal knows that when the weather is too hot, they have to find sanctuary under the cool shades of the lush green trees.                                                                             002

010After we left the old town on the River Uzerche, we drove into a small country village on top of a hill.  I immediately fell for the houses and their climbing foliage such as roses and Wisterias spreading themselves and embracing the beautiful sunny weather.  045

044After we had a good view of the hill and its climbing foliage dominating the homes, we drove into another small country village where tranquility lives within beauty of the country and its beautiful cottages.                                                                                                            011We made a stop to catch up with some beautiful cottages and their climbing red roses expanding themselves.  I asked the gentleman if he would give permission to take some pics of his cottage and outer buildings, he was so wonderful enough to give me the go ahead. 012One other thing that I adored are old walls with all the plants growing on them.

013And right opposite the red rose cottage was another cottage that the shutters were closed and perhaps owners were not home for the holiday yet.

015Although I know that Uzerche is called Pearl of Limousin,” knowing that this little town lives in the department of Correze, with its extraordinary beauty and historical image I would always imagine it as “The Citadel of Correze.”                                                               042As I came to the end of my visit of Uzerche, we continued our journey down the small country lane.   014I thank luck to have given me the chance to reach out for a visit of this astonishing historical town. 038(Please note that writings and pictures are the original properties of My Country Epoque) Thank you
